Working with recruiters is the next best thing to working with hiring managers. Recruitment professionals know their clients and they pride themselves on knowing their candidates in the hopes of making the right connections. In order to make this happen there are a few things you need to know:

TELL THEM EVERYTHING:
When building a relationship with a recruiter, this is no time to be shy. Recruiters need to know everything there is to know about you and what you are looking for in your career, i.e. salary, perks, specific employers, etc. Building an effective relationship with a professional recruiter starts with trust and honesty, so be forthcoming with your requests.

FIND OUT EVERYTHING:
Relationships are a two way street. When working with a professional recruiter you need to know as much about them as it relates to their capabilities and ability to help you secure employment. Do a thorough background check on the recruiter and/or the company. Review all the social networking sites where the recruiter does business and if they do not recruit via these new mediums, be aware; it might mean that they are not keeping up with workforce trends and new recruiting practices.

COMMUNICATE OFTEN:
Unfortunately securing a recruitment professional does not mean you will secure employment immediately. There can be a lot of waiting involved. Sitting still and waiting for the phone to ring is not an option for you. You are part of the communication equation and you must take an active role in all aspects of your career.

Approach your job hunt like you already have a job. If you see something online, hear about it on a website, see it on the news – contact your recruitment professional and collaborate with them on a game plan. Good recruiters are savvy and well connected, like real estate agents. They tend to know where all the hot properties are. However, they can not be everywhere, so the more hands they can have working in your favor the better.

BE REALISTIC:
Understand that you are not the recruiters’ only client. Schedule standing meetings no matter how short; just get them on the calendar. Recruiters understand your urgency however they have other clients asking for the same things. Work with your recruitment professional to set realistic goals that are effective and actionable.

A lot of candiates i meet with get extremely nervous when they hear they will be attending a Behavioural Interview. However, this shouldnt be the case! Behavioural interviewing is a popular approach to assess the past experiences of a candidate to judge his/her response to identical situations on a future job. Essentially, behavioral interviewing is based on the premise that “past performance in comparable circumstances is the best predictor of future performance.”

Follow these 6 steps to ensure answer behavioral interview questions and ensure you nail that dream job!

STEP 1

Listen to the question carefully. Commonly, behavioral interview questions tend be longwinded and may sometimes sound vague (blame an overuse of adjectives, adverbs and trendy language.) Here is an example: “Good problem-solving often includes a careful review of the substantial facts and weighing of options before making a decision. Give me an instance of how you reached a practical business decision by an organized assessment of the facts and weighing of options.”

STEP 2

Ensure you understand the question before you begin to answer. You may paraphrase the question and ask the interviewer if you understand it correctly. If necessary, ask the interviewer to repeat the question. Do not, however, ask the interviewer to repeat every question — the interviewer may question your ability to listen and comprehend.

STEP 3

Organize your answer. Allow yourself a few seconds to collect your thoughts and structure your answer.

STEP 4

State your answer. Attempt to conclude your answer in about two/three minutes. Three minutes is long enough to relate a story comprehensively and short enough to hold the interviewer’s attention.

STEP 5

Stick to your answer. Resist the temptation to think of new details as you state the answer. By sticking to the details and structure you had planned for, you can provide a consistent and well-reasoned answer. Be concise and stick to the point.

STEP 6

Answer follow-up questions. In response to your three-minute answer, the interviewer may pose follow-up questions. These questions can be confirming questions that require simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answers or clarifying questions that require brief answers.

How to Prepare for an Interview @ workhappy.ie

I am going to share with you 4 steps that you can take to prepare for any interview. Before we dive into the 4 steps, it is best to understand the underlying principle involved here.

Interview Principle: PREPARE, PREPARE AND PREPARE EVEN MORE

In order to successfully prepare for an interview, you have to better understand the big picture. Interview preparation is more than just reading over the job description over and over. If you are going to nail the interview, then you need to better understand the big picture and for that you need to get altitude.

Do Industry Research (Drapers, Google Finance, Yahoo)

You need to start of with a big picture view when preparing for an interview. The best place to start is to read up on some of the latest trends and happenings in the industry that the company is involved in. This is especially important if the company is in a different industry then what you have been used to. Your ability to talk intelligibly with the hiring manager in regards to the industry is so very important. Take time to do a bit of research on sites like Hoovers, Google Finance, and Yahoo.

Do Company Research (Company Website)

When sharing with candidate about how to prepare for an interview, I always tell them to read over every square inch of a company’s website. Many corporations have a lot of useful information on their site. You want to especially look for items like: recent news, published financials, products or services for sale and names of key executives. Glean everything you can from the company website. Also, go to Pipl.com and click on the “Business” tab. You can read some valuable information on the company as it relates to activity and discussions going out on the web.

Do Key Personnel Research (Linkedin, Facebook)

Next, prepare for an interview by doing some basic research on any key personnel in the company. You might be surprised to find out that there are many available resources to find out information on people. As mentioned earlier, Pipl.com is a great place to find summaries on people online. Linkedin is another great place to find out the professional background on people inside the company. It can be incredibly valuable to understand where an interviewer went to college or what company they last worked for and so on.

Opportunity Research (Networking)

This is the level that most people never go beyond. It is important but it should not be the only thing you are doing. If you want to learn the best practices about how to prepare for an interview then you have to go well beyond just this point. It is helpful to use networking as a way to better prepare for what the job is all about. Try to ask around and see if you can get some helpful advice and information from someone else who might be in the know.

In a classic Hollywood house in Los Angeles, last night around 200 guests gathered to celebrate Marni´s collaboration for H&M, a collection full of Marni’s signature print and colour arriving just in time for spring. Guests were wearing the Marni at H&M collection, as well as getting an exclusive performance by Bryan Ferry.

The latest designer collaboration for H&M is all about freedom and experimentation, Marni prints and colours intended to mix and match together in a playful way. Everything goes with everything, making African prints the perfect companion to Bauhaus modernity, and sporty silhouettes sitting with more feminine shapes.

The collection also includes a full range of shoes, bags and charming accessories to create a total Marni look at H&M. Meanwhile for men, Marni offers a fresh take on menswear staples, with a subtle use of print and a softened use of colour.

We can’t wait for these looks to land in store so everyone can wear them for themselves!

Availability: The Marni for H&M collection hits H&M South King Street Dublin on March 8th

As the end of the year approaches, were all inspired to make life changing moves however its important to plan a Search strategy for your career that is realistic and will get you where you want to go! From experience, plans that work best are those that are specific and measurable. Vague career goals that have no thought or planning as to how you will achieve them will usually prevent you from securing your long term career objectives.

So to ensure you have the edge on your Career Hunt in 2012 follow these 5 steps and keep your fingers on the pulse of the job market

Break down your career plan

Knowing where you want to be five or ten years down the line is fantastic however you need to know how to get there. Specific, measurable, short term goals are paramount and will give you a greater chance of achieving your long terms goals. Ensure your goals are also realistic and set up a spreadsheet to keep on track of everywhere your CV is being sent to. Although it may be tempting to apply for every job you see, you will not only waste your time but a potential employer or recruiters time. Only apply for jobs that your qualified for. If the advertisement asks for you to have five years IT experience and you don’t, move on to a better suited opportunity.

Kate's involvement with the charity comes from when she narrated A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back to Autism, a documentary about a young Icelandic boy named Keli Thorsteinsson living with autism, the Oscar-winning actress and mother of two became inspired to make a difference. After meeting Keli's mother Margaret, Kate was deeply touched by Margaret's far-reaching journey to find a way for her nonverbal son to learn to communicate. And with that, the idea for the Golden Hat Foundation was born. Kate outlines her involvement with the charity on their website with a personal message; 'It makes me incredibly proud to work on this effort to bring awareness to the plight of people with autism. I believe that all people with autism should be given the opportunity to learn to communicate, receive a suitable academic education and experience social relationships. Only then can they truly live a meaningful life'.

WHO ARE THE MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE IN UK RETAIL?

This year's edition of the Retail Week Power List have now been published and this year's results show more change in the top positions than ever before, reflecting a tumultuous year in retail. In Retail Week's 2010 Power List, the top ten most influential people in UK retail were:

2010

This is the sixth year of Retail Week’s Power List, but the first time there has been a change at the top. But that’s the nature of retail. The stakes are high, but so is the pressure, and while there are many figures who demonstrate tremendous longevity, the turnover in the list every year shows just how dynamic the retail industry is.
Good Times ahead in Retail!

Is this the start of a strong year for Retailers throughout the world? Heres hoping! With Zara owner Inditex posting a 10 per cent rise in its fiscal quarter and H&M a rise of 2% year on year, clothing sales are on the up.

We are delighted to see that H&M has resisted passing on rising costs to their consumers, conscious of its market share and low price image,

Inditex, the brainchild of Spain's richest man Amancio Ortega who is still the main shareholder, has reduced the proportion of sales in its crisis-hit domestic market through expansion into new markets like Asia and eastern Europe.

They are tipped to post first quarter profit of 327 million euros and an 11 percent sales hike to 2.96 billion, according to a Reuters poll. Delighted that were recruiting for them both!!
